AUL 2B CHAMPIONS – GLEN CELTIC
“We are already planning for next season in the first division,” says Tim Kelleher, assistant manager with Glen Celtic the newly crowned champions in Murphy’s Stout AUL 2B. “With youngsters like Christopher O'Keeffe, Shane Hurley, Willy Kiely and Kevin Cotter and the experience of John Long and Michael Shaw and others in the squad, we should be fine.”
Glen Celtic won 14 and drew 3 of their 18 games in 2B under manager Pat O’Sullivan and Kelleher. Liam Condon was the medical man and treasurer Mark Kavanagh also did his bit in the background.
The Glen panel consisted of Ken Kiely (keeper), Willy Kiely, Daniel Joyce, Billy Long, John Long, Demi Downey, Shane Hurley, Pat O’Leary, Brendan Long (captain), Paul Monaghan (leading scorer 17), Michael Shaw, Danny Kiely (15 goals), Kevin Cotter, Christopher O’Keeffe, Timmy Kelleher, Robbie O’Sullivan, Alex Buckley, Dayne Condon, and Ger Twomey.
Skipper Brendan Long also played a leading role in the training and one man who benefitted, according to Kelleher, was keeper Kiely. “He kept us in games on numerous occasions and the very tough sessions he did with manager Pat O’Sullivan in training paid dividends throughout the season.”
“Our best performance of the season was the 2-0 home win over a Central Rovers team who were defending a 12 or 13 game unbeaten run coming into the game. Our away win in Leeds Park was a high point in the season in which we had a huge support on the line that day. Our lowest point would have been the 4-3 defeat after being 3-0 up at half time in the Saxone Cup to the eventual winners City Wanderers.”
