Youth Soccer by Tony Fitzgerald
The U17 and Youth League kick off postponed last week end will go ahead next week end with non society referees staffing games. We may have a reduced programme of matches as the number of games to be scheduled will depend on the number of FAI registered non society referees the league can call on.
The league received an entry of 28 Youth teams for the new season and with all matches postponed last week end because of the strike by referees 4 teams have withdrawn from the original entries and we now have 24 teams participating for the new season.
These teams will be divided into 2 leagues; Premier and 1st Division with 12 teams in each.
Premier League:
Avondale Utd, Carrigaline Utd “A”, Castleview, Cobh Ramblers, Cork City, Douglas Hall, Everton, Fermoy, Greenwood, LeesideKnockraha, Richmond, and Rockmount.
The winners of the Premier League should come from the big 3 of Carrigaline Utd “A”, Cobh Ramblers, and Cork City, but have no doubt the rest of the teams will not be in awe of them.
League 1:
Ballincollig, Bandon, Ballyvolane, Carrigaline Utd “B”, Innishvilla, Kanturk, Lakewood Ath, Midleton, Park Utd, Passage, Ringmahon Rangers, and Tramore Ath.
Very difficult to predict who will finish on top in League1 but taking last season’s U17 results into the equation I would expect Lakewood, Innishvilla and possibly Carrigaline Utd “B” to figure in the shake up for honours.
The 2 Leagues will have a double round with each team playing each other home and away.
All teams must provide a pitch to play their home games, if teams are unable to provide a pitch they will lose home advantage and games will be reversed to their opponent’s ground
The fixtures for week ending 30th August will be published on Wednesday’s Evening Echo and sent by e-mail to all clubs.
Kindly ensure your team is listed as this is the list of teams I am entering in the Munster & FAI Youth Cups. Any team not listed who have a Youth team kindly contact me by return.
