Friday Night FAI Cup Action at Moneygourney:
Douglas Hall 5
Carrigaline B 5
In extraordinary
circumstances, Douglas Hall crashed out of the FAI Junior Cup 2-1 on penalties to Carrigaline B after the tie finished at 5-5 at the end of extra time in what can only be described as an epic and pulsating contest at Moneygourney last Friday night.
This tie had everything.
Drama of the highest degree, lots of goals, good football and six goals in 12 minutes.
With 12 minutes to go and with a 4-1 lead, Douglas Hall looked like having the tie well and truly wrapped up but, in a dramatic turn-around, Carrigaline staged a sensational come-back when they got three quick goals to make it 4-4 with just a few minutes remaining.
Then, when Douglas Hall restored the lead once again after that - one would have thought with just seconds remaining, it had to be all over but, a resilient Carrigaline refused to be bowed and forced the game into extra time with a dramatic equaliser with just seconds remaining.
When it then came to the penalty shoot-out, Carrigaline’s Michael Webb was on fire when he parried away a couple of blistering penalty kicks which made all the difference in the end.
