HAPPY 40th MAYFIELD UTD

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAYFIELD UNITED FC
Mayfield United launched their 40th birthday celebrations with style and humour at the Heineken Kiln last night, the style supplied by chairman Anthony Lotty, the humour by co-founder Ernest O’Mahony.

O’Mahony recalled the early days as a bunch of local teenagers, led by himself and Joe Kennedy, got the club on its feet, despite a shot across their bows by the clergy.

Recalled also were
Mayfield’s wanderings from temporary rented pitch to temporary rented pitch, one a farmer’s field secured on condition they help with the hay.

But their happy wanderings stopped around the mid 80s and now, overlooking the city and right in the heart of Mayfield, they have a multi-pitch complex to be proud of.

There was a huge turn-out in the Kiln, in an enjoyable evening under host Jim Cashman of Heineken, and this is just the first of a series of events which will culminate with a gala dinner dance on St Stephen's Night.
