RTE ignored but French TV were there |

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND 1 FRANCE 3
Could use all the usually adjectives associated
with the French, such as style and class, to describe their 3-1 win over Ireland
in last night's UEFA Women's EURO 2013 group game at Turner's Cross. For sure,
they had class and style but mainly they had skill and that was the major
factor in an easy win for the recent World Cup semi finalists.
Ireland were game and Fiona O’Sullivan’s first half header almost got
in. But France continued to dominate after the break and went three up. We
fought all the way but, in normal time, only a couple of astonishingly long
throws by Megan Campbell and a few runs by popular sub Denise O'Sullivan
bothered the visitors before the deserved consolation came in injury time.
Amazingly RTE, who had a report
in Morning Ireland today about the under-reporting of women's sport, managed to
sum up this international in half a sentence in the Sports Report and failed to
mention the result at all in Aertel or on the website. Poor form.
