The Cork AUL panel involved in the challenge game against Mayfield United at Mayfield Park on Monday night. AUL won 3-1.
OSCAR TRAYNOR UPDATE:
The Cork AUL Panel went through their first challenge game on Monday night and came out 3-1 winners over a well-drilled Mayfield United junior team from the MSL in what was a very useful exercise indeed for the Management team as they endeavour to take a look at some of the potential players likely to make the final panel.
And in short, everyone that represented the league on the night did not let themselves down at all.
I thought the preparation and organisation before the game was excellent and there was no doubt but, all the players chosen on the night had a massive desire to play for the jersey.
There was plenty hunger in their play and although we saw some terrific performances from certain players, I think it is best to keep names out of it for the moment as there are further trials yet to be conducted.
But, on the evidence of the performances all round, there is no doubt that Junior football in the Cork AUL is very much alive and kicking.
Dave Dineen got the AUL off to a flying start when he blazed home in the first period before further goals followed from John Corcoran and Alan Jeffers.
Mayfield United got one back when they scored from the spot in the second period.
But, in the overall scheme of things, the AUL Management team will be very pleased with what they saw and I have no doubt that they will be confronted with some headaches when it eventually comes to picking the final panel.
The AUL will play Glenthorn Celtic in another challenge game at Moneygourney this coming Wednesday night.
