Blarney Street Athletic 1 Northvilla 3
Two champions met at Monard on Sunday morning but 2B winners Northvilla were the hungrier and advanced to the final of the Murphy’s Stout Corinthians Cup with a comfortable 3-1 win over neighbours Blarney Street Athletic, the top team in 2A.
Northvilla started the brighter and had their reward in the 4th minute. Following a throw-in on the right, the ball broke outside the eighteen-yard box for Patrick O’Connor and he made no mistake as he fired in a beauty.
O’Connor was a very influential player in the middle of the park and gave Northvilla the edge. They made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute when Stephen O'Mahony’s corner was powerfully headed in by Kevin Goldsmith.
Blarney Street keeper Gearoid O’Brien had a busy second half and was beaten again in the 83rd minute. Northvilla quickly cleared from their own half and sub Stephen O’Connor latched on to a ball over the top and showed good composure to steady himself and fire an unstoppable shot past the keeper. Blarney Street’s consolation came a minute later when Ger Cronin converted a spotter.
