Buttevant, one down at the break, fought back well afterwards to earn a 1-1 draw and a replay in Shannon on the following Sunday week. Some 1,100 spectators saw the visitors go ahead just before the break. In injury time, a cross broke nicely for Kieran Ryan and his lob over Jerry O'Leary was well judged and beat the keeper to the line. 

Buttevant shaded the second half and equalised on the hour after a foul on Billy Sherlock. Paddy Harrington's dead ball soared away from Newtown custodian Mark Pierotti. More chances for the home side with Harrington and Jimmy Linehan trying their luck.

Newtown had good chances in extra time while Buttevant had the final one. Then Barry rose to head a Harrington free but put it over the bar.
