Tramore suffers extra time knockout in FAI U17 Cup.

FAI UNDER 17 CUP

Maymount Celtic 2 Tramore Athletic 0

(after extra time)

Goals in the 117th and 119th minutes gave Maymount Celtic a just about deserved 2-0 extra-time win over visitors Tramore Athletic in Sunday’s Snickers FAI Under 17 Cup game at Killowen.

Maymount, with Echo man of the match Howard Coakley (right) a handful, caused problems for Tramore all through and came very close in the 57th minute when a Lloyd Crowley header from a corner was cleared off the line. Coakley went close several times, but Tramore keeper Roy Heaphy was in great form.

Leonard Baker's shot from a distance made it 1-0. Two minutes later, Maymount’s substitute Anthony O’Callaghan’s 20 yard shot put the game beyond Tramore’s reach. Maymount’s Howard Coakley combined work-rate and skill. He was always a thorn in Tramore’s side, always willing to have a shot and deserved his Man of the Match award.

Maymount gets through in extra time.

Grattan Utd, with Darren Galvin in man-of-the-match form, made the last four in the AUL area of the FAI Youths Cup with a  2-1 away win over Leeds. Brian O'Sullivan and Eric Fleming scored for Grattan, and they had noteworthy performances by Colin O'Sullivan, Anthony McGee and Ryan Caulfield.

Despite the best efforts of two-goal Gene O'Sullivan, Kanturk lost to Tramore Athletic in the FAI U18 Cup. After extra time, it was 3-3, and Tramore won the shootout 5-4.

Everton pipped Lakewood 3-2 in a smashing game in Ovens; Pat O’Shea and Alan Healy scored for the losers.
