St John Bosco’s 4 Hibernians 1
A couple of first-half goals by Kenneth Kelleher put St John Bosco's on their way to a comfortable 4-1 win over Hibernians. The losers fought very well in the second half and deserved more than a one-goal return, the timber twice coming between them and a score.
Kelleher’s first, a 30-yard drive, came midway through and followed an impressive build-up play involving Aidan Kelleher and Shane McSweeney. The second arrived just before the interval when he flicked in a low corner.Bosco's Mark Duggan (left) clashes with Darren Roche
Hibs started the second half well and should have pulled one back in the 50th minute but Trevor Rowe’s pass off a Darren Roche pass came back off the foot of the post.
The Saints went three up four minutes later. Mark Duggan fought hard to get in a shot. Keeper Mick Brosnan parried, and John Boylan kicked in the rebound.
Hibs got the goal they deserved in the 56th minute when young Jason McGroarty scored well after a run in from the left. Trevor Rowe then went close for Hibs, but their chances lessened in the 61st minute when they had a man sent-off.
Brosnan kept their chances alive with a great save from Duggan. The ten men fought well, and Bosco’s keeper, Glen Mackessy, saved well from the influential Tim Creedon.Hibs keeper Mick Brosnan finds himself out of goal and in a race with striker Mark Duggan (right).
Hibs were again denied by the timber in the 79th minute, Creedon very unlucky to see what looked like a perfect lob go over off the top of the bar. Bosco's sealed it with eight minutes to go when former Golden Boot winner Duggan beat Bfrosnan with a well long-range placed lob after seeing the keeper well off his line.
